Ramsay continued to rework Consolation in Paris

Ramsay continued to rework Consolation in Paris, and it continued to be a source of frustration. After 8 months in Paris he may have felt he had outgrown his first youthful approach to the painting. His friends made this inability to finish the work a point of fun, but for Lambert and Ramsay it was a springboard for discussions about how to achieve unity in a painting which is worked on over a prolonged time.

This painting can be seen at the National Gallery of Victoria.
